Cisco, Gift City ink MoU for smart city services

Global information technology (IT) giant Cisco on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (Gift City) for smart city services.

AHMEDABAD: Global information technology (IT) giant Cisco on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (Gift City) for smart city services.
As part of the agreement, Cisco India and Gift will jointly provide public Wi-Fi, smart parking, smart transport, traffic analytics, smart kiosk and Remote Expert Government Services (REGS) in GIFT City near Gandhinagar.

The Nasdaq-listed company will also install environmental sensors in Gift City which would measure the air pollution real time. A City Command and Control Centre will also be established to offer effective transportation system in Gandhinagar and Gift City.
"Global experts from Cisco would specially develop applications for Gift City in fields of intellectual property rights, internet of things (IoT) and mobile technology," an official statement said.
Cisco also signed another MoU with International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate) to build an ecosystem to foster startups and innovation in the state. The global IT major and iCreate, will explore the setting up of an IoT innovation hub at iCreate's new campus at Dev Dholera near Bavla to foster local innovation. The innovation centre will enable startups and entrepreneurs to build smart city and IoT-based solutions.
