Wailoku resident Aradhna Sharma said she had no idea that the house her family had moved into three months ago would be affected by  flooding.

The 37-year-old mother of two is apprehensive about the current adverse weather conditions.

She did not know that her area was prone to flash flooding.

“I feel a bit afraid because it is my first time, I had never experienced being in a flooded area,” she said.

She said her family had no choice but to move to Wailoku because her previous landowner wanted to sell the house they rented in.

“Since we had no other place to stay, my friend who is the landowner said she will build a house where we can move in,” she said.

“This house was built this year and as soon as it was done, we moved into the house.

“The landowner said she did not know that this would happen. She knew it would flood but not this serious.”

Her husband had called her while she was at work yesterday and told her to come home.

“We will move out of here to my family’s place in Newtown,” she said.
