A new battle for democracy will be witnessed tonight in the Athletics general assembly elections at the Leaders Qualification Centre as the elections enter the home stretch.

Lt Gen Mohammad Hilal Al Kaabi and Ahmad Al Kamaly are the two candidates for the presidency, while another 17 candidates will be in the race for winning the eight board of directors' seats.

Khalifa Eissa Al German, the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare Financial Manager and member of the Elections Executive Committee, will chair the general assembly.

Lt Gen Al Kaabi, Deputy Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, was the former Athletics Federation chairman.

Al Kaabi was nominated by Al Ain club.

Al Kamaly was famous as the organiser of the Dubai Marathon which is held annually. The 17 candidates for the board membership are:
