AGRA: In a tragic incident, a man who was managing crowds at Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s movie set in Nandgaon was run over by Karnataka Express on Tuesday when he tried to disembark at Mathura junction. Identified as Manoj Kumar, the victim was heading for Mathura after a four-day vacation. The actor is in Nandgaon shooting for his upcoming movie ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’.
Manoj Sharma was a resident of Nagla Kali on Deori road in Agra.
The movie team offered their condolences to the family, but also said that Sharma was not part of the team at the time of his death. Speaking to TOI, Rati Sharma Tripathi, line producer of the movie, said, “It's unfortunate that a man was run over, but the victim was no longer working with us." Akshay Kumar has been shooting in Mathura district for his upcoming movie ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha' here since the past month. The film had also faced a lot of flak over its controversial title.
Speaking to TOI, Mukesh Kumar, GRP’s station officer at Mathura junction, said, “Around 8pm, when Karnataka Express arrived at platform number two, Manoj attempted to get off the train which was still in motion. He lost his balance and came under its wheels. He was killed on the spot.” On Tuesday, the train was running late by more than an hour.
“The body has been handed over to the victim’s family. They’re taking it back to Agra for final rites,” the SO said.
