SI dies during scuffle with wanted suspect

 A Sub-Inspector attached to Kandy Police died during a confrontation with a wanted suspect yesterday.

A post-mortem will be held to find the cause of the policeman’s death.

The officer died during a scuffle with the suspect who was trying to flee after a Police team surrounded his house in Deltota.

The policeman who had fallen during the scuffle, had been in pain. Officers admitted their colleague to the Peradeniya hospital where he died. Officials who believe that the officer may have died due to a sudden illness are awaiting the outcome of the post mortem examination to determine the exact cause of the death of H.B. Kulasekera, 58, a father of two. Meanwhile, Police deployed a team of officers to arrest the suspect who fled the scene.
