Cattle thieves attack cops in Hathras

While constable Uma Shankar Yadav sustained injuries on the shoulder, Arvind Kumar suffered head injuries.

TWO POLICE constables were attacked by cattle thieves with iron rods, when two among them were caught trying to steal cattle from a house at a village in Sikandararau area of Hathras early Tuesday.

While constable Uma Shankar Yadav (32) sustained injuries on the shoulder, Arvind Kumar (30) suffered head injuries. His condition is stated to be critical. Both are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Aligarh.

An FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons on charges including attempt to murder at Sikandararau police station. “I received a phone call from one Bheekam Prasad Singh of Pant Road around 12.45 am seeking help, as two persons were trying to brake into his cattle shed where two buffaloes and a cow were kept,” Sikandararau police Station House Officer Rajveer Singh said.

“I immediately alerted constables Uma Shankar and Arvind Kumar, who were on on patrolling duty in the area. When the constables, who were at a distance of 1 km from the spot, were about to reach the house, Prasad raised an alarm, alerting his neighbours. By the time the constables reached Prasad’s house, the thieves had escaped,” he added.

“The constables were told that the miscreants had fled towards the thickets and they started looking for them… They spotted the two youths soon after. As they caught the two miscreants… two more persons appeared from the thickets and attacked the constables with iron rods. While the constables fell on the ground, the cattle theives fled by firing in the air,” said the SHO.
