A day after senior RSS leader S Gurumurthy said that Rs 2,000 notes will also be withdrawn after some years, Congress attacked Narendra Modi government and asked who is taking the key decisions at centre. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azaad who was running the government-PM Modi Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, RBI or Gurumurthy. The leader pointed out that demonetisation initiative was announced by PM Modi, whereas it is the prerogative of either the RBI or the Finance Minister to do so, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said.
Earlier in the day, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram also cited Gurumurthy’s and said, “Yesterday a leading RSS spokesman said that Rs 2,000 notes should also be withdrawn. I won’t be surprised if they do that.”
However, the government has already rejected opposition’s charge of RSS’ involvement in decision making. Speaking to media, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that Gurumurthy just gave a ‘suggestion’. “He (Gurumurthy) is a well-meaning person and a nationalist. He has just given a suggestion (that Rs 2,000 note could be phased out),” he said.

In an interview to India Today Television, Gurumurthy, who is veteran RSS leader, supported government’s notion of lower-denomination banknotes. Gurumurtthy currently serves a key member of the Sangh-backed Vivekananda Foundation and chartered accountant. The leader has been advising seniors in the government over ways to deal with demonetisation.
