A lesson of selflessness from the world's most inspiring person

I woke up early today morning and as usual, my first task was to get hold of my phone and get up to date with the happenings around the country, region and the world. Usually, political news make headlines but today was an exceptional day. I bumped into a story that not only caught my attention but also left me in a thoughtful and probing introspection about myself. 

This is the story about Anja Ringgren Loven a Danish care worker who has been named World's most inspiring person of the year by German-language Ooom Magazine. She beat the likes of Barrack Obama and Pope Francis who emerged 2nd and 4th respectively on the list. 

Ms Anja's caring heart, empathetic nature and selfless love saw her become a voice for the innocent and a beacon of hope for the hopeless Nigerian child named Hope who had been cast out by his own community for being a 'witch-child'. Hope's star of life had faded away with no place to call home, no one to call a relative.

Anja sold her assets back in Denmark and relocated to Nigeria, a country that has been associated with exorcism and superstition to rescue these innocent souls through her foundation that has now rescued 34 children. Good enough, her efforts are now being recognized apparently not in her home country Denmark but in another continent, Africa. 

In the words of Mandy Hale, 'There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life more beautiful for others.' Let Anja's story be an inspiration and s moral lesson for us all to learn that there is much expected of us. A call to put a smile on some souls out there that have no voice but want to have their cries and wishes felt. 

Selfless love is always costly; fear can't afford it, pride doesn't understand it but those who receive this selfless love never forget it.
