Dale Schenk, the co-founder and chief executive officer at Prothena Corp. who devoted his scientific career to researching neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, has died. He was 59.

He died Sept. 30 at his home in Hillsborough, California, Ellen Rose, a spokeswoman for Prothena, said in a telephone interview. The cause was pancreatic cancer, according to a statementBloomberg Terminal from the Dublin-based biotechnology company. He was diagnosed with the disease in December 2014 and announced on Sept. 26 that he was taking a medical leave of absence.
