It’s Gowda, Kumaraswamy at the helm of JD(S) again

H D Kumaraswamy was once again elected unanimously as JD(S) state president while his father H D Deve Gowda was re-elected as the national president of the party on Friday.

BENGALURU: H D Kumaraswamy was once again elected unanimously as JD(S) state president while his father H D Deve Gowda was re-elected as the national president of the party on Friday. The polls were held on the second day of the national executive meet in the city, where more than 350 members from across the country are taking part.

Though Kumaraswamy had skipped the meet on Thursday evening, he was present on Friday.
No other members filed nominations for both posts.
Speaking at the event, Kumaraswamy said he would have been happy to pass on the mantle of state president if someone else had expressed their wish to do so. “But the party workers have expressed their wish that I should be president and I will respect their wishes. People are supporting us this time and it is the responsibility of the workers to convert this support into votes,” he said.

Hitting out at BJP, he said BJP created opportunities for their workers to make money when they were in power. “We cannot even calculate the amount of money made by BJP MLAs. The Prime Minister has given an opportunity to people to convert their black money into white through demonetisation. Do we need a PM who has brought the poor to the streets? He does not have the decency to even acknowledge those who have died due to this,” he said.

Commenting on the CM’s statement that JD(S) would not come to power, he said he would accept the challenge and waive all farmers loans within 24 hours of coming to power. He also promised to invest more time in party affairs and added that office bearers would be chosen depending on how serious they were about promoting the party.
