Team India took a very little time to pick remaining four England wickets on day five, and register a comprehensive innings and 36-run win over the visitors in the fourth Test at the Wankhede. Ashwin ran through the England lower-order as he picked all four wickets to fall on the day. Ashwin ended the innings with the figures of 6 for 55 and match figures of 12 for 167.
Earlier, a flawless double century by captain Virat Kohli (235) and a resilient century by Jayant Yadav (104) had given India a lead in excess of 200 runs. Kohli was the star with the bat as he played a measured innings with wickets falling all around him to notch up his third double century of the year. With in-form rookie Jayant Yadav scoring 104 at the other end, the duo put together a partnership of 241 runs for the 9th wicket to help the hosts amass a formidable first innings score of 631 runs.
Visitors posted a respectable total of 400 runs in the first innings but failed to provide any resistance and were bowled out for 195. They scored just 13 runs on Day 5 and lost four wickets. With this win, India regained the Anthony de Mello Trophy. From England batting line up, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow were the only batsman who showed resistance by scoring 77 and 51 respectively.
With this win, the cricket fraternity started congratulating the Indian side and here are some of the twitter reactions:
