Gordon Scores 20 As Cajuns Defeat SUNO, 87-57
LAFAYETTE – Jaylyn Gordon scored 20 points and Jasmine Thomas added 17 as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns defeated Southern-New Orleans 87-57 on Saturday evening at the Cajundome.

Louisiana (4-2) had a double-double performance from freshman Brittney Myles with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Southern-New Orleans (2-6) led 7-6 with 7:18 left in the first quarter after Janica Diaz scored the first seven points for the Lady Knights.

The Cajuns then went on a 17-4 run to lead 23-11 with 3:23 left in the first quarter. A three-pointer from Troi Swain extended the Louisiana lead to 32-15 with 1:44 left in opening period.

Diaz scored a layup to cut the Cajuns lead to 32-17 at the end of the first quarter.

Louisiana went on an 11-0 run to open up the second period and led 43-17 when Gordon made a layup with 6:21 left in the second quarter.

SUNO closed the second period on a 17-6 run to cut the Louisiana lead to 49-34 at halftime.

The Cajuns led 62-36 when Gordon connected on a three-pointer with 5:52 left in the third quarter. Louisiana extended its lead to 73-45 at the end of the third period.

Louisiana led by as many as 32 in the final frame on its way to a second consecutive win.

Diaz led the SUNO with 19 points while Julia Alexander had 13 for the Lady Knights.

Louisiana will return to action on Wednesday, December 14 when it hosts Houston in the Third Annual Education game at 11 a.m. in the Cajundome.

Troy Drops Game at Jacksonville, 77-70
JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The Troy women's basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped as Jacksonville came away with a 77-70 victory at Historic Swisher Gym on Saturday.

The Trojans (5-2) trailed for the entire game and by as many as 16 points with 8:27 left in the game. However, Troy was able to pull within three points, 68-65, before the Dolphins scored nine of the last 14 points.

Jayla Chills led the Trojans with 15 points and added six rebounds, while La'Tia Fils-Aime' scored eight points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman Amber Rivers turned in a career-high 10 points in 13 minutes of action.

Jacksonville (8-2) forced 21 turnovers and got a career-high 27 points from guard Brandi Buie. The Dolphins held Troy, averaging eight 3-pointers a game, to just two fro beyond the arc. Sherranda Reddick entered the game leading the Atlantic Sun with 20.6 points per game but was slowed to just three field goals, but scored seven points from the free throw line to give her 15 for the game.

"We only took 63 shots in the game and we need to take 85 to play our style of basketball," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "Their 1-2-2 press slowed us in the first half. We just have to learn from our mistakes and bounce back against Nicholls State."

UP NEXT
The Trojans complete its two-game road swing with a trip to Nicholls State on Dec. 14. Troy defeated the Colonels 104-51 last season.

St. Edward’s Upsets Texas State 65-51
SAN MARCOS, Texas – St. Edward's used 11 3-pointers and a near 50 percent shooting performance to upset Texas State 65-51 in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum.

The Hilltoppers, counted triples by five different players, including three each from Bailey Hill and Lexi Cunningham. Shakera Barnes paced St. Edward's, which finished the game 22 of 45 from the field, with 12 points. Hill was also in double-figures with 11 points. The Hilltoppers (4-5) also controlled the rebounding battle 39-31 with Khiani Clark controlling a game-high nine.

McKinley Bostad scored a career-high 16 points, surpassing her previous high of 15 set as a freshman at Arkansas, to lead the Bobcat offensive efforts. Zandra Emanuel totaled a near double-double with 12 points and seven boards in her 15 minutes of work off the bench. Texas State (3-5) closed the contest hitting 33.9 percent (21 of 62) of its shots.

St. Edward's started the game hot from the field and stayed that way through the entirety of the first quarter, building an 18-9 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Hilltoppers closed the opening period shooting 46.7 percent, including a pair of 3-pointers. Conversely, the Bobcats shot 30.8 percent from the field and made 1 of 10 attempts from three.

The Hilltoppers' Hill pushed the visitors ahead 24-9 at the 6:54 mark of the second quarter with her second 3-pointer of the stanza and third bucket of the game. St. Edward's would later push its lead to lead to 18 points at 33-15 as Madison Schenck connected on the Hilltoppers' sixth 3-pointer of the half. An Emanuel layup and Kiani Lurry jumper cut the Bobcats' deficit to 33-19 heading into the intermission.

St. Edward's closed the first half shooting 52.2 percent (12 of 33), including a 5 of 8 effort in the second quarter. The Bobcats' shot 32.1 percent (9 of 28) overall, making 1 of 10 from deep.

St. Edward's made 7 of its 13 shots in the third quarter to create further separation on the scoreboard. Fairen Sutton banked in a 3-pointer as the quarter clock expired, providing the Hilltoppers a 52-32 lead.

The Bobcats outscored St. Edward's 19-13 in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough to overcome the early deficit as the Hilltoppers went on for the 65-51 victory.

Texas State next plays at Prairie View A&M on Fri., Dec. 16. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Panthers' William Nicks Building.

ULM Downed by Rebels
Oxford, Miss. - The ULM women’s basketball team was overpowered by Ole Miss 97-40 on the road Saturday afternoon at the Pavilion.

TURNING POINT

Ole Miss started things off with a 24-point run before the Warhawks were able to score with 2:45 left in the first quarter. The Warhawks were unable to close the deficit as Ole Miss led for the entirety of the game and closed out the 97-40 win.

NOTEABLES

-Gabriella Cortez was the only Warhawk to score double digit points, finishing with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Four of her field goals were three-point shots. The junior also contributed two assists, one steal and no turnovers in the 26 minutes that she played.

-The Warhawks came out of the locker room after the half and put up 24 points in the third frame for the highest total of points in a quarter for the contest. ULM tallied a 71.4 field goal percentage and shot 10-of-14 in the quarter.

-ULM struggled to hold on to the ball with a total of 31 turnovers compared to the Rebels' 10. Ole Miss went on to score 29 points off of those turnovers.

-The hosts led in almost every category excluding turnovers. Ole Miss put up a field goal percentage of 45 percent compared to the Warhawks' 30 percent. The Rebels also took charge in points in the paint (42-16), second chance points (18-7), fast break points (22-0) and points off the bench (37-21). Ole Miss also outrebounded ULM by a margin of 10.
