Do not share confidential bank details, warns Central Bank of Oman

Muscat: Don’t share confidential bank details to people posing as officials from telecommunication companies, the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has warned.
“Many instances of fraud committed on the citizens and residents of Oman by people posing as callers from telecommunication companies have been brought to the notice of the bank recently. Using the confidential bank details, the fraudsters have transferred the money from the accounts of the victims,” the bank said.
The modus operandi is that, impersonators lure the victims by informing them that they have won prizes from the telecom companies.
In order to establish their credibility they will push the victim to disclose their bank account details, such as the account/debit card number, PIN and the One Time Password (OTP) on the pretext that the information was required for transferring the prize money to their bank account.
And when the fraudsters get the details, they fraudsters will take money from the accounts of the victims.
“In view of the above, the CBO cautions all citizens and residents in Oman be cautious and not to respond to such calls. Don’t share confidential bank details with unauthorised persons,” the bank advised.
