DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: A state-owned newspaper in the United Arab Emirates is reporting that Abu Dhabi investigators are heading to the U.S. after police in Ohio shot dead an Emirati.

The Arabic-language Al Bayan newspaper also reported Thursday that the body of 26-year-old Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri is on its way back to the United Arab Emirates for burial Friday.

Authorities say Alameri, a student at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, was shot once in the head Sunday by police after fleeing a car crash on the Ohio Turnpike and fighting with an officer.

The newspaper says Abu Dhabi investigators will "participate in the investigation" of Alameri's shooting death. It did not elaborate.

The UAE, a federation of seven sheikhdoms on the Arabian Peninsula, is a stalwart U.S. ally in the Mideast.
