Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani has called for an immediate ceasefire in Syria and return to the negotiating table, stressing that a political solution is the only way to resolve the crisis.
He was speaking at a joint press conference with US Secretary of State John Kerry, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, and the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, after the ministerial meeting on Syria in Paris on Saturday.
The foreign minister said that what is happening in Aleppo is tantamount to a war crime, as the city is still being bombarded with explosive and chemical weapons.
Earlier, on the sidelines of the meet, the Qatari foreign minister met Riad Hijab, head of the Syrian High Negotiations Committee.
They reviewed the recent developments in Syria, particularly in Aleppo, in addition to exchanging views on the friends of Syria meeting and coordinating stances on the latest developments. They also discussed efforts to reach a political settlement in Syria and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
