Crude bomb hurled near shop in Fatehpura
The incident happened despite police intensifying vigil in the area.
VADODARA: Two days after heavy rioting broke out in communally sensitive Fatehpura, some miscreants again tried to disrupt peace in the areea by hurling a country-made bomb outside a shop near Adania Pul on Saturday morning.
The bomb exploded just a stone’s throw away from Fatehpura police chowki. No persons were injured due to the explosion as the shops in the locality were closed.
The incident happened at 9 am when the shopkeepers were preparing to open the shops.
The police said that nobody in the vicinity saw who threw the bomb. The bomb contained nails and shrapnel, said a police official.
People from the surrounding area rushed to the area on hearing the blast but there was no untoward incident as the police immediately cordoned the spot and dispersed the crowd. Within few minutes, Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) and other police officials reached there and started investigations. DCB teams again conducted combing in the area.
“We suspect that somebody from Pehelwan no Khancho threw the bomb but investigations are still on,” said M D Puwar, police inspector, City police station.
The incident happened despite police intensifying vigil in the area and carrying out massive combing operation on Thursday that yielded gun powder, acid bottles, petrol bottles, knives and several dangerous weapons from abandoned houses.
“We conducted combing in the area throughout the day but we did not find anything suspicious,” said Leena Patil, deputy commissioner of police, DCB.
Heavy police bandobast has been deployed in the area after the December 7 rioting which left five police officers injured.
