BSP GENERAL secretary and the party’s Muslim face, Naseemuddin Siddiqui, on Saturday said only “6 per cent” of Uttar Pradesh votes for the ruling SP, which uses votes of Muslims — constituting 20 per cent of the state’s population — to come to power, only to abandon them later.

Addressing a Bhaichara Sammelan in Muslim-dominated Machhli Mohal area of Lucknow Central constituency, Siddiqui urged the community to join hands with BSP’s Dalit support base, which he claimed comprises 26 per cent of state’s population. “Together, Dalits and Muslims constitute 46 per cent of UP’s population, and will be a formidable force in the elections next year,” he added.

Speaking to mediapersons later, Siddiqui said he had nothing to do with his brother Hasanuddin, who was on Saturday given a ticket from Banda by the SP for the 2017 polls.
