NOIDA:
Swati Singh, wife of expelled BJP leader
Dayashankar Singh, on Saturday slammed BSP chief Mayawati, saying the latter is in trouble because the
demonetisation had made the money she hoarded useless. Speaking at a meeting in Noida, Swati said she is willing to contest against
Mayawati in the upcoming assembly elections in UP.
The BJP had made Swati Singh as the state president of its women's wing, mahila morcha, in October after her husband was expelled from party for derogatory remarks against Mayawati.
Swati addressed a gathering of nearly 500 party workers at a function titled – Mahila Sammelan – in Sector 62 on Saturday. “I had no intention to join politics. But I felt the comments of BSP workers were objectionable to my family. I took a stand and challenged them. The people supported me and I came into politics,” she said.
Swati came into prominence after she led a campaign against BSP leaders for making derogatory remarks against her minor daughter. This came after her husband and former state BJP vice-president Dayashankar Singh was expelled by the party after his comments on the BSP supremo caused a controversy.
Swati said the entire country knew that Mayawati sold people’s rights and hoarded money. “The money she hoarded became useless in a few seconds. Behenji (Mayawati) is now wondering as what to do,” she said. “I will definitely like to contest against Mayawati, if my party allows,” she said.
When asked on demonetisation, she said that it was a good move and the citizens are with Prime Minister
Narendra Modi. “The problems are decreasing slowly and the people appreciate it because it will yield good results in the long run,” she said.
Swati led a campaign demanding FIRs against BSP leaders in July 2016. The BJP then elevated her to the chief of women’s wing in the state. Swati Singh holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce, an MBA and also a post graduate degree in law. She worked as a lecturer in Lucknow University.
