Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is a spiritual remake: RS Prasanna

RS Prasanna says that the Hindi remake of Kalyana Samayal Sadham is a new film sharing the soul and spirit of the Tamil version...

Despite dealing with adult content, the 2013 flick Kalyana Samayal Sadham, starring Prasanna and Lekha Washington, turned out to be a feel-good movie devoid of double innuendos or vulgarity — and soon enough it got the attention of Bollywood too. Now, director RS Prasanna is gearing up with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan — the Hindi remake of the Tamil film. “A month after the release, we screened it in Mumbai. Director-producer Anand L Rai, who saw the film, said he would do the film in Hindi right away. I didn’t know what was happening,” Prasanna begins.

Talking about the upcoming Hindi film, he says, “I wouldn’t say it is a complete remake of KSS. It is an entirely new film with the same basic theme and soul. ‘Spiritual remake’ is the correct word for it. We will soon come out with the official announcement about the cast and the crew.”

Prasanna considers collaborating with filmmaker Anand L Rai as an achievement — “I figured that even if the film didn’t materialise, getting a chance to sit and discuss it with Anand L Rai sir itself was a success. It was a great experience working with him.”

When asked why he hasn’t made a Tamil film post his debut, he reveals, “I worked on a short film, and I made a full-length English film On A Quest for Chinmaya Mission. Also, I was working on this remake. But I can never leave Kollywood. Actually, I am writing a script and will start taking it to producers once it shapes up.”

Prasanna also had aspirations to work in the Malayalam film industry. “Other than Tamil, Bollywood and the Malayalam film industry are the two places I want to work in.”
