Most customers opting for
radio cabs here have gone for
cashless rides after the government scrapped the Rs 500 and Rs 1,00 notes on November 8. Service operators said they have registered a rise in cashless payments for a month now.
To promote cashless transactions and create awareness about the provision in the app, the service providers have introduced a cash-back system for cashless rides, under which the customer will be getting Rs 100 back on the first two cashless rides.
“We have recently emailed to all our customers about the discount and are receiving good response. I cannot tell the exact figures but feel it could be close to 50 percent,” said a customer care attendant of Ola.
Pavan J Kumar, a businessman whose work takes him to different cities, said he had noticed the cashless facility only after the email and was more than happy about it.
“I have to visit the railway station at odd hours. These private cabs are useful. But after
demonetisation, I was a little worried about the change. Though I did not face any problem, I feel going cashless is better,” said Pavan.
Jayashree Nair, on the other hand, started using cashless option only after demonetisation though she was aware that the facility existed.
“We have provision for cashless booking from the time we started the App. There is an option for Ola Money in the App. One can add Rs 100 to Rs 20,000 in it. It is just like any other online transaction,” said another customer care representative. “It is just like any other online transaction. A person can use credit or debit cards or net-banking,” he added.
On the number of customers using cashless rides after demonetisation, he said it was difficult to quote the exact figure but it had definitely increased significantly.
