For the latest on the magnitude 6.2 earthquake that rocked Hutubi County in the western Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region on Thursday. Two people were slightly injured from the jolt, and seven houses collapsed. This is the second earthquake of such to hit Xinjiang over the past two weeks. But that does not indicate the region sees strong earthquake activity.

"Both Hutubi and Aketao sit on active seismic belts, but are quite far away from each other. So they're not related. Looking at the year's statistics, neither the frequency or magnitude of the earthquakes is abnormal," said Pan Huaiwen, director of China Earthquake Networks Center.
