Teacher gives birth inside Kentucky middle school
Don't doubt Allison Zemba's dedication to the classroom.
The Kentucky middle school teacher interrupted the eighth grade science class she was teaching to give birth to a baby girl on Thursday.
That's right. Zemba went into labor and gave birth in a faculty bathroom of East Jessamine Middle School, a few miles south of Lexington.
Zemba, despite contractions, decided she'd show up to work anyway on Thursday, a day past her due date. But her labor worsened, causing her to alert staff.
Jessamine County Schools spokeswoman Patrice Jones said Zemba gave birth to a 9-pound, 2-ounce baby girl about 3:30 p.m. Zemba's husband Casey Plouffe and school nurse Kesha Kemp assisted with the delivery before the pair was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Fellow teachers helped monitor Zemba's classroom until school was dismissed at 3:40 p.m.
"The birth was without incident. We want to recognize their dedication and taking school spirit to the next level," Jones said. "They are definitely a Jaguar family."
Baby Grace is resting at home with mom and her two older sisters, Jones said.
"We have gotten word from dad that things are going well," she added.
