Indian Woman’s cricket team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur will be the part of 13 member squad for Sydney Thunder who will play the opening game of Women’s Big bash League, against Melbourne Stars.

Earlier this in 2016, Kaur had become the first Indian woman to join the foreign T20 league after signing the agreement with Sydney Thunder. Prior to the decision, BCCI showed a green light to women players to take part in foreign leagues, thus, Kaur grabbed the opportunity by joining Thunder.

Speaking after the association with Harmanpreet in July, Sydney Thunder’s  General Manager, Nick Cummins, had said: “We are delighted to secure a player of the calibre of Harmanpreet.”

Kaur recently led the Indian side to the Asia cup title by defeating Pakistan in the finals and now the 27-year-old is all set to perform for Nick Cummin’s team as she joined her new teammates in Sydney in the process of practising for their opening game.Though she has already made the country proud but it will be itself a big achievement and a great honour for the whole of India if Kaur seals her place in playing eleven of the Thunders.

“I am really excited to be here and looking forward to play here. When I came here I was a bit tired, but I hope I really do well in the training sessions and tomorrow also. The tournament (Asia Cup)  gave me a lot of confidence and whatever I learned there can hopefully help me here. I’ll try to give my best and do whatever the team requires. I just want to play my game and execute whatever I have done in the last few days”, said Harmanpreet Kaur.

Kaur who is enchanted with her new journey and association with the new franchise had a talk with ESPN Cricinfo and told them “”We knew it would be big, but didn’t realise the WBBL would be such a huge hit until we got there earlier this year. Whichever venue we visited, there was a lot of talk about the tournament”.
