JAIPUR: The sleuths of Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two road transport inspectors Madan Lal and Hitesh Chandra and one middleman Suresh Kumar for allegedly accepting bribes from overloaded trucks passing through national highway near Shahjahanpur near Alwar.
Late on Thursday evening, the sleuths of ACB had conducted raids at houses of RTO inspectors in Bhilwara and Jaipur. The sleuths had seized Rs 1.5 lakh from Hitesh’s house and Rs 13 lakh from Madan’s house.
Rs 9 lakh were seized from the house of a retired RTO inspector Virendra Agarwal.
Another team of ACB had conducted raids at the house of RTO’s Bhilwara inspector Mukesh Daad. “Agarwal and Daad are on the run. On Thursday, we had sealed Daad’s house. On Friday, we seized unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 8 lakh from his house. We also seized two cars and several two wheelers,” a senior ACB official said.
The sleuths said Rs 8 lakh were in old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. The ACB also found a key to a bank locker from Daad’s house. “We have seized Rs 33 lakh in total so far. An FIR has been registered against all accused under several sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” an ACB official said.
The ACB had received a complaint that some of the RTO inspectors with the help of agents were allowing entry of overloaded trucks on the highways. “They would demand Rs 15,000 to Rs 2,000 from every truck. The racket was deep-rooted as the agents and drivers of the inspectors were sent to the eateries along the highway to get money from the truckers,” an ACB official told TOI.
The ACB officials had received a specific complaint about the illegal dealings after which their team had carried out raids on Thursday night.
