Rigorous Imprisonment to forest department clerk in bribery case

NASHIK: A clerk from the office of the Deputy Conservator Forest office was sentenced to 2-year Rigorous Imprisonment in connection to a case of bribery in 2011. The convict Sharad Aher, 50, was caught while accepting bribe of Rs 500 at the Deputy Conservator Forest office on September 2, 2011.
An offence was registered against Aher at the Sarkarwada police station under different sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
Meanwhile, the special district and sessions court has also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on Aher, under two different sections.
Officials of the anti corruption department said that demanding bribe is a serious offence. The officials have appealed to the citizens to contact the ACB if bribe was demanded by any public servant in government or semi government department. The officials added that people can report about demand of bribe even if it was demanded by a private person on behalf of a public servant.
Senior officials said that people can either contact the ACP on its landline number (0253 2575628 or 0253 2578230) or on the toll free number 1064. The revenue department and the police department tops the chart in bribery cases in Nashik.
Officials said that apart from the revenue and police department there were many other government departments were bribe was demanded. Meanwhile, the ACB also organised special camps in the rural parts of the district to spread awareness about anti corruption and how people can approach the ACB if there was a demand of bribe.
