The Board of Control for Cricket for India (BCCI) has turned down its CEO's wish for Italian-tailored suits, each costing a whopping Rs 2.5 lakh each, for the Indian Cricket Team.

The Board of Control for Cricket for India (BCCI) has turned down its CEO’s wish for Italian-tailored suits, each costing a whopping Rs 2.5 lakh each, for the Indian Cricket Team.

As reported by The Indian Express, Rahul Johri had proposed the idea of 50 suits for cricketers as well as the top executives to BCCI president Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke via an email.

“The Indian team is in need of new sets of formal attire. The cost per set will be approximately Rs 2.5 lakh. And we intend to order 50 sets. Request your go-ahead,” Johri wrote in an email to the the top brass.

Board legal counsel Abhinav Mukherjee pointed out that as per the Supreme Court’s order, the BCCI cannot enter into any new agreement without consulting the Justice Lodha Panel.

The committee, in its report, stated that the vendor should be appointed through a tender process. But it seems this is done by a private negotiation. Ideally, we should refer this to the committee,” Mukherjee wrote in his email as reported by The Indian Express.

However, Anurag Thakur was against idea of new suits and said there is no need to consult the Lodha Panel.

The timing of the e-mail must also have irked the BCCI president as on November 20 there as BCCI-Lodha Panel hearing in the SC and the email was sent on November 19.
