Worldwide, December 10th is honored as Human Rights Day and increasingly, it is being taken up seriously and not as a mere formality. You only have to open the morning newspaper or the TV news channels to understand how crimes against women and children and minorities seem to be increasing rapidly.

If you study the statistics and various studies undertaken by the United Nations year after year, you will be horrified altogether – hence the need for discussions at the highest level on the protection of human rights.

Keeping human rights as its key focus, the Confederation of Indian Bar held a special discussion on the topic “Role of Women in World Peace.” Justice A.K. Sikri, Supreme Court Judge was the Chief Guest who spoke at length and shared his views on this. The Guest of Honour was Ms. Nam Hee Kim, Chairwoman, International Women’s Peace Group. Mr. Pravin H. Parekh, President, Confederation of the Indian Bar spoke on Human Rights Day. He also presented a memento to the Chief Guest – Justice AK Sikri, Supreme Court Judge.

1. End war, end terrorism – this is the need of the hour for all countries.
2. Conflict is resolved not by war but by peace.
3. In every action we undertake, let us practice peace in life.
4. The heart of a woman can change the world.
5. Peace is represented in the national flag of India.

Ms. Nam Hee Kim, Chairwoman, International Women’s Peace Group summed up her address, saying, “I express respect to all India’s leaders in creating a world of peace.”
