Microsoft was able to cross the last hurdle (EU regulators) in the $26 billion acquisition of LinkedIn, which is the employment and jobs related social networking website. The deal began in June of this year, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella yesterday said that it was now complete.
In a blog post on LinkedIn, Nadella said that Microsoft and LinkedIn can now begin the ‘journey to bring together on the world’s leading professional cloud and the world’s leading professional network’. He explained his vision for both companies going forward together, and laid out the immediate terms the companies will pursue to integrate together.
For starters, the LinkedIn identity and network will be integrated in Microsoft Outlook and Office suite as well. Also LinkedIn notifications will come within the Windows action center. Microsoft will enable members drafting resumes in Word to update their profiles, and discover and apply for jobs on LinkedIn.
It will also be extending the reach of Sponsored Content across Microsoft properties. Enterprise LinkedIn Lookup will be powered by Active Directory and Office 365. Microsoft and LinkedIn are also developing a business news desk across the content ecosystem and MSN.com. In addition to this, Microsoft and LinkedIn will redefine social selling through the combination of Sales Navigator and Dynamics 365.

Nadella said that the top priority of the teams would be to accelerate LinkedIn’s growth, which he says will be done by adding value for every LinkedIn member. He described the benefits and new opportunities that will open for users and will be created by the digital economy.
“Microsoft – inclusive of LinkedIn – can take steps to help people develop new skills online, find new jobs and easily connect and collaborate with colleagues. Technology alone will not solve these challenges, but together, working across private and public sectors, we can create more opportunity for everyone to participate and share in economic growth,” Nadella added in his post.
“I want to extend a warm welcome to every LinkedIn employee to Microsoft. I am energised and optimistic for what we can achieve together and the journey ahead,” he concluded.
