Yesterday, we reported that Mazda CEO broke hearts by saying the Mazda RX-Vision in the Mazda RX-9 would probably not happen. Today, let us discuss the RX-Vision in detail and why fans of the brands had been demanding it for years now.
The Mazda RX-Vision is supposedly the automotive world's last hope to bring back the legendary rotary engine. Rotary engines or Wankel engine (named after its creator) had been developed and used since the 1920s. The Rotary Engine is able to achieve greater power and speed than typical vertical pistons blocks performance but they have serious defects that have forced their abandonment.
For almost a decade now, the automotive world has not sees a car with a rotary engine in the market. The last time it was seen is none other than the famous Mazda RX-8 . A highly collectible gem and even today remains a paradigm of this type of engineering. However the Japanese abandoned its use for the sake of more conventional blocks.
But Mazda has always done things a little bit differently as said by CheatSheet and at the 2015 Paris Motor Show revealed their Mazda RX-Vision that will use the rotary engine. No other auto brands have dare to revive the engine except Mazda and the fans of the engine rejoice to the site of the Mazda RX-Vision.
After years of commissioning, Mazda engineers now believe they have the solution to the problems of the Rotary engine. It is the new SKYACTIV-R engine that will be embodied in the spectacular Mazda RX-Vision concept, which somehow recalls much of the Mazda RX-7.
The issue, as with any ambitious project like this, is simultaneously overcoming both technical and financial hurdles. And alas, Mazda seems to have given up and as TopGear reported, the Mazda RX-Vision will not come now and the rotary engine may just be a part of hybrid's range extender rather than main engine.
