Welcome to our coverage of the second day of the fourth Test between India and England in Mumbai. (SCORECARD | BALL-BY-BALL UPDATES)

16.34 IST: STUMPS! A fighting day of Test cricket that ends on even terms. England posted 400 and India have begun well to get into this position. KL Rahul got off to a brisk start but the aggression got the better of him. England would have hoped for more wickets at that time but the pair of Pujara and Vijay then saw India through with a fine unbeaten 107-run stand. India 146/1 at stumps, trail England 400 by 254 runs. Vijay 70*, Pujara 47*

Both Pujara and Vijay were superb at playing with the bowling especially the spinners and both used contrasting ways. Vijay was happy to take the attack to the English spinners while Pujara was happy to play the waiting game and build the innings. India will want these two to carry on and put in a huge first innings score on the board since batting will get progressively difficult.

England will be disappointed with the way they have bowled. The pitch has been assisting the spinners but they lacked discipline to sustain any pressure. The hosts still trail by 254 runs and will hope to get as close to England's total as possible. The visitors on the other hand, will want to come back fresh, with new plans and stay in the game with a flurry of wickets.

16.17 IST: PARTNERSHIP! Vijay and Pujara have now been involved in a partnership of 100 runs. India 139/1, trail England 400 by 261 runs

15.43 IST: MCG ODI - Australia thrash New Zealand in the third match by 117 runs to sweep the series. (SCORECARD)

15.41 IST: FIFTY! Murali Vijay reaches his 15 half-century. India 108/1, trail England 400 by 292 runs

15.33 IST: DRINKS! Vijay and Pujara have looked solid in their approach. The duo has put on 65 for the second wicket. India 104/1, trail England 400 by 296 runs

15.14 IST: CHANCE MISSED! Rashid bowls it outside off, Vijay looks to work it through mid-wicket but misses and the ball runs past the keeper towards fine leg. A bye taken.

15.07 IST: PARTNERSHIP! Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara have added 51 runs for the second wicket. India 90/1 in 31 overs, trail England (400) by 310 runs

15.02 IST: FOUR! Full toss and BOOM! Rashid slips out a full toss outside off, Vijay makes the most of it by slamming it over mid off for a boundary. That was a bad ball and duly hit. India 86/1, trail England 400 by 314 runs

14.40 IST: England have opted for a referral for a lbw decision given not out against Pujara. NOT OUT! Waste of a review! Floated outside off, spins away a touch, Pujara looks to pad it away but does not seem to have picked it. It looked like a hurried decision to pad it away. Cook is convinced and goes for the review. The impact isn't an issue since he was not offering a shot. Ball Tracker shows it to be missing the stumps. Wonder how Rashid said that it was a googly since it looked like a regular leg spinner that came of the front of the hand. IND 73/1, trail by 327 runs

14.34 IST: FOUR! Leg Byes! Angled on the body, Pujara looks to leave after getting hit on the body. The ball runs down to the fine leg fence. Leg byes signaled. IND 68/1, trail by 332 runs

14.25 IST: Vijay and Pujara are out to bat. Will India continue to take the spinners on or will they look to build taking their time? England to begin with Jake Ball.

14.12 IST: UPDATE! Paul Reiffel underwent precautionary tests yesterday, which came back all clear. Paul, however, has been advised to rest, which is the normal course prescribed following a concussion. As such, he will not take any further part in the Mumbai Test and has been replaced by Marais Erasmus.

14.12 IST: TEA! India reach 62/1 at the end of second session. A session with which the hosts will be the happier side. Soon after the lunch, the Indian spinning duo completed the job by picking the last 2 wickets in a quick succession. The Indian batsmen came on to bat with an attacking intent and played their shots freely. This led to their first wicket as Lokesh Rahul got too ambitious and fell to Moeen Ali.

13.53 IST: SIX! Vijay finally connects cleanly. Floated on off, Vijay gets under it and launches it over the head of Adil Rashid for a maximum. One wonders how long India are looking to keep hitting such shots? India 55/1, trail England 400 by 345 runs

13.42 IST: WICKET! Poor shot and Rahul departs. Floated outside off, spins in, Rahul shapes to drive it through covers but misses the line of the ball completely. The ball turns in sharply and disturbs the furniture. Moeen is delighted and why not, that was well bowled and he got good turn on that one. Rahul departs for a low score again. He looked too eager at times today. India 39/1 (14 overs), trail England 400 by 361 runs

13.31 IST: DRINKS! Indian openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay have batted beautifully so far. India 36/0 (12 overs), trail England 400 by 364 runs

13.02 IST: FOUR! Beautifully driven. Replica of the Vijay boundary. Woakes pitches up outside off, Rahul leans beautifully into the shot and drives it through mid off for a boundary. India 11/0 (4 overs) vs England 400

12.59 IST: 10 years ago, England had scored an identical 400 against India in their first innings in Mumbai. The Andrew Flintoff-led side won the encounter by 212 runs.

12.50 IST: FOUR! A delicious half volley to start with by Chris Woakes. Murali Vijay's eyes lit up seeing that and drives it through mid off for a boundary. Gets off the mark in fashion and gets the scoreboard ticking. India 4/0 in 1.1 overs

12.45 IST: India openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay walks out in the middle. James Anderson starts with the new ball.

12.34 IST: That's it! England are all out for 400. Ravindra Jadeja makes Jos Buttler his last victim to finish with 4/109. Buttler batted extremely well for his 76. That ends a very good effort from England with the bat. They won the toss before but didn't make the most of it, they have posted exactly 400 here with some vital contributions. Debutant Keaton Jennings helped them get a great start and they were cruising at 230 for 2 before a mini collapse brought India back in the game.

England were once again rescued by the lower order with Jos Buttler playing well for his 76. He got good support from the other end as the Indian bowlers failed to show the discipline they have so far in the series. Ashwin (6/112) and Jadeja (4/109) did the bulk of the bowling and shared ten wickets between them.

12.13 IST: Ravichandran Ashwin starts proceedings after lunch. England 385/8 (Jos Buttler 64*, Jake Ball 29*)

11.32 IST: LUNCH! 97 runs at the loss of 3 wickets will sum out an even session but in the context of this match and under the circumstances one would say that England have definitely won the session. The spinning duo of Ashwin and Jadeja troubled the English lower middle order and took some early wickets by sending Stokes, Woakes and Rashid back to the dressing room. England 385/8 in 125 overs

11.18 IST: Second new ball has been taken by India. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will start the proceedings from this ball. England 372/8 in 121.1 overs

11.07 IST: MCG ODI - Australia 143/4 in 33 overs against New Zealand. David Warner 80*, Travis Head 26* (SCORECARD)

10.58 IST: FIFTY! Jos Buttler slams his sixth half-century. England 353/8 in 116.1 overs

10.40 IST: WICKET! Jadeja strikes again and this time it's Adil Rashid. Jadeja bowls the arm ball, Rashid leaves it for reason best known to him, but the ball keeps coming in. He watches the ball hit the top of off and Jadeja takes off. A brilliant ball that, Jadeja has been superb and he again gives India a timely wicket. England 334/8 in 112 overs

10.20 IST: WICKET! Ravindra Jadeja strikes and Chris Woakes has to depart. Once again Jadeja produces this magical delivery, which lands just outside off and turns sharply. This time the ball manages to catch the outside edge of Waokes' bat who prods forward in defence and Patel behind the stumps takes a good sharp catch. It's too good of a delivery for the lower order right handed batsman. Jadeja finally reap dividends for his efforts. England 320/7 in 107.3 overs

10.10 IST: Virat Kohli injures his left knee while making a sliding attempt and looks to be in some pain. However, after a brief medical attention, an extremely fit Kohli is back on the field. England 313/6 in 104.1 overs

10.03 IST: NOT OUT! An lbw call against Jos Buttler is not given, Virat Kohli is not sure but still goes for the review after consultation with the bowler Ravindra Jadeja. India now have lost both their reviews. England 305/6 in 100 overs

09.42 IST: OUT! Ashwin bags his 23rd Test five-wicket haul, removes Stokes for 31. Decision overturned. India strike early through Ashwin. Tossed up beautifully around middle, Stokes looks to defend it across the line and gets beaten by the turn. The ball then goes into the hands of Kohli at first slip. India start celebrating but the umpire says not out. Kohli decides to review it and the replays show that the ball went off the outside edge of stokes' bat, confirmed through snickometer. Stokes is not happy with the decision and walks back in denial. ENG 297/6 in 97 overs

09.36 IST: FOUR! Stokes making his intent clear. Served full around off by Jadeja, Stokes gets down on one knee and sweeps it through front of the mat at deep mid-wicket for the first boundary of the morning. ENG 296/5 in 96 overs

09.29 IST: Game time! The players are out in the middle. Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler are out to continue batting. Ashwin to start for India.

09.25 IST: India will want to get rid of the England tail as soon as possible and restrict them. The visitors on the other hand, will hope to add as many as possible since batting is going to get difficult as the game progresses. England like to score quickly and Kohli hates going for too many runs. Whoever wins this first session is likely to stay in control of this game.

09.00 IST: PITCH REPORT! Sunil Gavaskar reckons the pitch is dry and hence the ball is turning as much it is. Opines that the turn is only going to be more and more. He spots areas on the deck which are starting to open up. Nasser Hussain adds that there has been more bounce on offer for the spinners. Gavaskar opines that if England score 80-90 more today, India will be on the back foot.

Ravichandran Ashwin brought India back in the game after Keaton Jennings slammed a hundred in his first innings of Test career.

Debutant Jennings scored a magnificent century as England reached 288/5 at stumps on Day 1. Now with Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler at the crease and bowlers to follow, it will be interesting to see how they go about their effort today.

The second new ball is available and India will be keen to exploit the morning freshness at the Wankhede and wipe out the remaining wickets as early as possible.
