Two workers were killed and one injured after a blast in a tank at a manufacturing plant of detergent giant Nirma, in Bhavnagar on Friday.

Sub-divisional magistrate of Bhavnagar, Trupti Vyas told The Indian Express that the accident occurred at around 11:30 am when a few workers were moving an old oil liquid diesel (OLD) tank from one location to other at
the detergent manufacturing plant in Kala Tala area, around eight kilometres from Bhavnagar city. “Before they got a final clearance to start the operation to erect the tank at designated slot, two workers climbed on the tank. All of a sudden, the lid of the tank blew off, killing the two workers on the spot. A third worker who was standing near the tank has sustained fractures and has been rushed to hospital,” said Vyas.

The SDM said that around 3, 700 workers were at work in other areas of the plant but the impact of the blast was limited to the location of the tank only.

Police said that the injured was rushed to a nearby hospital in Bhavnagar for treatment. Incidentally, five workers were killed in an incident of flash fire at the refinery complex of Reliance Industries Limited in Jamnagar on November 24.
