MADIKERI: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB, Mysuru) sleuths have caught Kodagu PWD executive engineer Jagannath Jadhav red-handed while he was allegedly receiving bribe from a local contractor.
The contractor, Yathish, had bagged a tender for PWD work to construct quarters near Vartha Bhavan here. The work on the project, worth Rs 23 lakh, is under progress.
Yathish approached Mysuru ACB S P Kavitha after Jadhav allegedly demanded Rs 4 lakh to pass some bills. Laying the trap, ACB asked Yathish to give Rs 82,000 (in Rs 2,000 denomination) as the first instalment to Jadhav at 8.45am on Thursday. When Jadhav was accepting the money, the ACB team led by DSP Gajendra Prasad, and comprising inspectors Anil kumar, Gangadhar and Manju caught the corrupt engineer.
The Prasad said Jadhav has successfully been trapped. SP Kavitha, who had directed the operation, explained that a criminal case under Anti-Corruption Act will be booked against the accused and he would be produced before a court in Mysuru. The case will be transferred to Madikeri ACB before being handed over to DSP Shanthamallappa of ACB, Madikeri.
Though several contractors and people were complaining against the engineer, Yathish went a step ahead and complained to ACB, which in turn laid the trap to arrest the corrupt officer.
