5 things we learned from the first 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' trailer

Is the third Spider-Man a charm? Sorry, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, but at least Tom Holland looks the role of a teenage kid balancing superpowers and homeroom angst in the first Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer.

The upcoming Marvel movie — in theaters July 7 — finds Queens youngster Peter Parker learning from his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), dealing with Michael Keaton's evil Vulture and getting thrown into the deep end of his sophomore year of high school in footage that premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday.

Check it out below:

Here are five cool things we learned from the Homecoming trailer, in GIF form:

Iron Man has Spidey's back

Tony recruited Spider-Man to help on Team Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War, and he's not only giving Peter cool tech for his Spider-suit but also doling out advice. However, the most important piece of advice is...

'You're not ready yet'

Peter is all about being a superhero and the monotony of high school life is even harder to take when he knows there's a world to be saved. But Tony would rather the Avengers handle the big bad villains, which rubs Spidey the wrong way and makes him want to prove his worth even more.

Peter's crushing hard

One positive about school life: Getting to see his crush Liz Allan (Laura Harrier) on a daily basis. Peter wonders aloud to his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) if the staring is getting a little creepy and then gets a snarky response from their classmate Michelle (Zendaya): "You guys are losers."

Beware the Vulture

Keaton's fearsome foe flies into the picture wearing a sharp wing suit and a malevolent attitude. But the guy is pretty evil even out of the criminal costume. "Don't mess with me," he warns. "Because I will kill you and everybody you love."

The new guy's got some skills

Fortunately, Spidey may be a rookie but he's talented when it comes to in-fight banter and pretty decent when it comes to being a hero. He foils a bank robbery by a bunch of guys wearing plastic Avengers masks — "You guys aren't the real Avengers," he quips. "I can tell, Hulk gives it away." Plus, not only can he jump off the Washington Monument and take getting a schoolbus thrown at him, Spidey's strong enough to web up the sides of a fractured cargo ship and hold it together.

That'll do, Spider. That'll do.
