CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday dismissed SAD's Moga rally as not a 'Paani Bachao, Punjab Bachao' rally but a desperate "
Badal Bachao" cry for help by a party which had lost all credibility in the state it "misruled" for 10 years.
He alleged that despite the "hired" workers and crowds that had been "lured or coerced" into coming to the venue, it was evident that SAD was on the defensive in the face of imminent defeat in the upcoming assembly elections.
Terming the so-called anti-SYL mega rally 'a mega damp squib', he pointed out that the chief minister had failed to announce any
action plan on the issue. "It was, once again, a lot of rhetoric that the Badals have been repeating incessantly for the past several weeks on the SYL issue. The people of the state know that the entire drama has been enacted by the Badals with an eye on the coming polls," he said.
"Had the CM made some effort to have the (SYL) case properly fought in the
Supreme Court, things would have been different," the PPCC president added. He alleged that Badal was responsible for selling off the interests of Punjab on the SYL issue in exchange for a paltry amount from Haryana, merely on account of his personal relations with Haryana's then chief minister Devi Lal. "There is sufficient documentary proof to endorse this."
