Irrigation Works in the Punjab



THE success of the irrigation works in the Punjab has attracted wide appreciation. It is interesting to learn that up to the end of 1915-16 the Capital outlay on them exceeded Rs. 23.24 crores of which 1.64 crores were contributed by the Native States. The financial results show a receipt of 3.64 crores (excluding Native States) for 1915-16 as against 3.55 crores in the previous year and 2.60 crores in 1911-12. The gross revenue was, therefore, the second largest and record. The working expresses increased to 118 lakhs from 103 lakhs in the previous year. Thus the net revenue for the year amounted to Rs. 246 lakhs as against 262 lakhs in the previous year and 169 lakhs in 1911-12. The decrease is due to the reduced Kharif irrigation and increased expenditure.
