Shimla, December 8
The CPM workers today staged protest against the Central government’s decision to stop supply of subsidized atta to the Above the Poverty Line families (APL) in front of the DC’s office. They demanded a roll back of the APL atta quota as the decision was anti-people. The protest was led by CPM state secretary Onkar Shad, Kuldip Tanwar, Jagat Ram, Vijender Mehra and other leaders. They shouted slogans against the BJP government at the Centre and termed the decision anti-people. The ABL-BPL category should be abolished and all families should get Rs 2 per kg atta, they demanded.
Mehra claimed that the prices of the atta in market had shot to Rs 32 per kg and people are not getting atta in the PDS deports in the state. The CPM charged that the NDA government was breaking the PDS system in the country by taking anti-people decision to benefit the black marketers and hoarders. Even the state government was not serious about the APL quota cut and had not raised issue with the Centre, Mehra claimed.
