Almost a week after a woman based in the United States wrote to the Commissioner of Delhi Police alleging that she was gangraped by a group of five men, including a tourist guide, at a hotel near Connaught Place in April, the Delhi Police on Thursday said they will approach the woman on Skype to record her statement.

The police also said that they have contacted the five accused — including the tourist guide and some of the hotel staff.

Delhi Police spokesperson Dependra Pathak said: “So far, we have approached 11 suspects. However, no arrest has been made yet.”

Pathak said the suspects have given their versions of the incident “but we will wait for the woman’s final statement”.

Police sources said the main accused, a tourist guide in his thirties, who is currently in Nepal, has given his defence.

Festive offer

Sources added that the suspects have told the police that the woman had given a positive feedback to the travel company before returning to the US.

The police, however, said that they have established the presence of all the suspects in hotel. “But there is confusion as to who among the attendants are the accused. There are also some missing links between her statement and the version given by accused,” said a police officer.

“If she returns to record her statement in front of a magistrate, that will help the case and lead to arrests,” a police officer said.
