DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand government today constituted a SIT to look into allegations of buying Rs 1.5 crore-worth gold by a BJP MLA to turn his black money into white, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation of high value currency notes on November 8.
An SIT headed by IG Garhwal was set up to look into the allegation after an AAP delegation met Chief Minister Harish Rawat here and handed him a memorandum accusing a BJP MLA of buying Rs 1.5 crore-worth gold at around 9:30 PM on November 8 to turn his black money into white, CM's media advisor Surendra Kumar said here.

The SIT has been asked to submit its report to the government within a week, he said.

State AAP spokesman Rajesh Bahuguna said they had submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Prime Minister on Nov 21 itself.

However, when the party received no response from the PMO even after a month of the demonetisation move, it approached the Chief Minister with a request to act in the matter, he claimed.
