Once again, everything is coming up Marvel in the world of superhero movies. The new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hit the web last weekend, and the first teaser for Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to drop tonight (if you're reading this on Thursday). But that doesn't mean Marvel is just coasting. The Spider-Man trailer has to make a big impact if it wants to match its predecessor—Guardians' new tease smashed viewing records for the studio. Are people as excited for Spidey? We'll know soon. But in the meantime, there's also these things to consider as superhero movie news continues to roll out.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is only just now getting its first promotional push, but Vin Diesel is already thinking past that, as this interview with Screen Junkies reveals:
For those who don't have the patience to watch the video, he tells the audience that, "if it’s up to James Gunn, you are going to see a Groot and Rocket movie after [Avengers: Infinity War]. I think that’s highly possible. We shall see. I know that, somewhere in the universe, you are going to see Groot and Hulk battle. You can write it somewhere. You are going to see that poster: Hulk vs. Groot." Well, that's an unexpected suggestion. It's also not clear if Hulk vs. Groot is a potential spin-off idea, or a reference to an Infinity War plot, but alas!
Why this is super: On the one hand, it's probably now safe to say that Rocket and Groot won't die in the next Guardians movie, but that wasn't very likely anyway. That said, a spin-off featuring those two going it alone? OK, sure, that seems bankable.
This is an impressively tenuous rumor, but one that's doing the rounds nonetheless: Recently, the Twitter account belonging to Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Social Network actor Armie Hammer was followed by DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns and The Batman actor Joe Manganiello, leading some to speculate that he's playing some mysterious character in the DC cinematic universe, with a lot of those people suggesting that Green Lantern Hal Jordan is a possibility, if not a probability. Hey, stranger things have happened!
Why this is super: As eager as we are to get the two stars of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. back together again onscreen—Superman himself, Henry Cavill, was Hammer's co-star in the movie—this is perhaps the flimsiest of rumors, albeit one that suggests that everyone is expecting some kind of Green Lantern cameo sooner rather than later. If DC and Warner Bros. hear that demand, and act on it, then that'll definitely be a good thing. Although it should really be John Stewart, not Hal Jordan, but that's another matter altogether.
Actually, speaking of Manganiello, he might have let something slip about *The Batman'*s shooting schedule. Even though the movie—directed by and starring Ben Affleck as the none-more-morose Dark Knight—wasn't expected to begin production until next year, Manganiello said during a recent interview that the movie "will start at some point this year, it looks like." This year? There's less than a month left in this year! Is this some very intense prep work or is production getting jump-started, perhaps brought on by Gal Gagot's pregnancy?
Why this is super: It's always possible that Manganiello was speaking in the sense of "some point in the next 12 months," which would mean that the movie isn't getting started earlier than expected. After all, doesn't Ben Affleck have to do promo for January's Live By Night over the next month? Or is he just really good at multi-tasking?
When Marvel debuted the new cinematic Spider-Man in a trailer for Captain America: Civil War, fans were ecstatic over how closely the costume resembled the comic book incarnation of the character. Well, they should get ready to get ecstatic again, because it looks like Spidey will have under-arm web wings in next year's Spider-Man: Homecoming—a design consideration that is often ignored in the comics, never mind the movies, but has been in place since co-creator Steve Ditko's first design for the hero. Ahead of the first trailer for the movie (tonight, on Jimmy Kimmel Live!), Marvel's teaser for the clip revealed the wings to the world:

Why this is super: OK, this is just a fun little design shout-out to the original comics, but it's also another sign that there's a lot of attention being paid to the source material on Homecoming, at least when it comes to visuals. This really does feel like the Spider-Man film fans have been waiting for.
Well, now we know just how long we have to buy new water wings. Warner Bros. announced last week that Aquaman (the solo movie starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard as the eponymous hero and Mera, Queen of Atlantis) will be released October 5, 2018.
Why this is super: This means fans have about 22 months to wish and hope that Jason Momoa bases his performance on this:
Sure, he's already shot Justice League, but they can change direction in the solo movie, right?
