Mumbai International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to be renamed soon

Mumbai, Dec 8: The Mumbai International Airport will soon be renamed as ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’ and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus or the erstwhile Victoria Terminus will be renamed as ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal’. Mumbai is a city of pulsating action that has lured a millions. The beauty and fame of the city has left people spellbound with its landmarks galore.

Mumbai’s  Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus  which was early called as  Victoria Terminus (VT), is a historic railway station and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mumbai. The station’s name was changed to its present one in March 1996 and it is now known simply as CST (or CSTM) and is soon going to get a new name, ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal’.  CST is one of the busiest railway stations in India and serves as the headquarters of the Central Railways. It serves as a terminal for both long-distance trains and commuter trains of the Mumbai Suburban Railway.

Mumbai is a star-studded home ground of Hindi movies and its fame has pulled many from across states. The present CST station was built in 1887 in the Bori Bunder area of Mumbai to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria and was designed by Frederick William Stevens with influences from Victorian Italianate Gothic Revival architecture and traditional Mughal buildings. The Work began in 1878 and since then the structures is standing tall. Many Indian states have also been renamed over a period of time. Baroda has been changed to Vadodara, Trivandrum to Thiruvananthapuram, Bombay to Mumbai, Madras to Chennai, Poona to Pune and the latest name change that happened this year was Gurgaon, one of the prominent cities of Haryana to Gurugram. Along with Gurgaon, Mewat has also been renamed as ‘Nuh’.
