SURAT: A 30-year-old textile businessman was attacked by four unidentified persons on Nanpura-Makkaipul Road on Tuesday night and looted his licenced pistol. The victims suffered injuries on face and other body parts.
Tosif Kapadiya, a resident of Chowk Bazaar, was returning home from his office around 11.15 pm on his scooter when nearly rammed into an autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction but was on the wrong side of the road.
Kapadiya told the rickshaw driver not to drive on the wrong side. Soon, the driver and three others came out of the rickshaw and thrashed Kapadiya. In self-defence, Kapadiya took out his licenced pistol and warned the accused. The attackers caught Kapadiya and took him to a nearby narrow lane. There they thrashed him once again. The accused later looted his unloaded pistol, two mobile phones and wallet with cash and credit cards. Kapadiya told police that he was not aware about how much cash he had in his wallet.
The accused later escaped in the autorickshaw after crowd started gathering. Kapadiya asked some people present to make a call to 108 EMRI ambulance but initially no one did. He then came out on the main road and called his father using phone of a stranger. His father later shifted him to a hospital in Athwalines. No arrests have been made in the case so far. Police are examining CCTV cameras of the area to identify the autorickshaw and the accused, who attacked Kapadiya. tnn
