Kat Von D Tattoo Liner.

One of the biggest make-up trends today is a bold eyeliner look and for good reason. It’s the simplest thing a person can do to look made up and draw attention to the eyes — but it’s often not the quickest thing to do.

Yup, I’m not too proud to admit that sometimes my eyeliner is not ‘on fleek’. Apart from just practising often, it helps to have the right tool. My go-to eyeliner is the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper (Dh99), which is a dark black and waterproof formula. It works like a pen and has a brush tip, which makes for super easy application. Even on my worst eyeliner days, this little baby has not failed me.

A simple way to get a thin, straight line is to use the brush as a stamp: hold the brush sideways and flat against the eyelid and press down in a stamping motion as you move along the lash-line. If you need the line to be darker or to even it out, use short swipes of the brush (all while trying not to mess it up).

For a cheaper alternative to the Tattoo Liner, there’s Rimmel’s Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner (around Dh35). Funnily enough, the formula is probably better than the significantly more expensive Tattoo Liner — both in colour and staying power — but the dip applicator and thicker felt tip of this drugstore find is fiddly to work with.

Another tip for a less frustrating experience (especially if you have small eyes): tilt your head back while looking straight into the mirror while applying the liner. This will give you more eyelid space to work with.

I hope my almost 300 words about eyeliner (don’t judge me) will help you achieve your make-up dreams.

Until next time ...
