Raees trailer: The trailer proves why Shahrukh Khan is the King of Bollywood. SRK released the video on Twitter yesterday around noon, almost in a casual fashion (“Bola tha na maine… Lo Aa Gaya”), as if he knew it was going to break the internet. And break the internet it did as the trailer has received almost 11.7 million views in a single day and has claimed the number one spot on YouTube’s trending list. The trailer, which shows Shahrukh Khan in his most menacing avatar since Darr, has even managed to beat the video of power couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli dancing at Yuvraj Singh’s wedding.
As expected, Twitter exploded with memes, tweets and pics of the film and the hashtag #RaeesTrailer trended all day. Shahrukh stars at the titular liquor bootlegger Raees in the dry state of Gujarat, according to a report in NDTV. While the film is allegedly based on the life of Latif Abdul, director Rahul Dholakia has denied such claims.
The trailer’s success can also be credited to the rivalry between Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Shahrukh Khan’s characters that escalates with every scene the pair shares in the 2.45-minute video. Due credit must also go to the Sunny Leone fans, who got to see one scene of the actress getting into Zeenat Aman-mode for the song Laila O Laila. Raees’ trailer also gave another surprise by announcing that its release date is 25th January. This means that it’s once again going head-to-head to with Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil.
