BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has floated an expression of interest (EOI) inviting private parties that deal with e-waste. The BMC will select one or multiple firms to help segregate and recycle e-waste generated under its jurisdiction.
The smart city being home to several offices, big institutions such as healthcare and financial, schools, colleges and universities, private business houses and shopping malls, which use electronic gadgets, it remains a challenge to dispose off the bulk of the waste.

"We have floated an EOI so that we get to know how the e-waste can be scientifically handled. The International Financial Corporation, (IFC), an arm of the World Bank will provide us technical assistance on how to handle the waste and go for its recycling," said BMC commissioner Krishan Kumar.
Besides floating the EOI, the BMC has designated an engineer to take care of the e-waste exclusively. The e-waste management is being monitored through the BMCs Swachha Bhubaneswar Abhiyaan cell, he added.
