NSS scheme will be extended to high schools: Pramod Madhwaraj

MYSURU: Sports and youth affairs minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Wednesday disclosed plans to extend NSS scheme to high schools also, while speaking after inaugurating NSS ETI one-week training programme organized by NSS Empanelled Training Institute, University of Mysore at its premises.
Madhwaraj said to strengthen the NSS programme, budget allocated to it should also be increased, and he is currently discussing the same with the chief minister.
“About 3.5 lakh members are there under the NSS programme in Karnataka. We plan to increase this to 10 lakh,” he said.
He praised University of Mysore for showing immense interest in NSS programmes and said other educational institutes should make follow this practice.
“I had conducted a meeting with NSS officers in Kalaburagi recently. I got information that the officers are not showing much interest in the programmes. Also, many officers and MLAs does not know about these schemes. In such a situation, how will the public be benefited by these schemes” he questioned.
He advised all officers to attend a training programme, being held by the government to spread awareness about such programmes. “Already 40% of government officers have underwent the training programme,” he said.
University VC KS Rangappa, state NSS officer, NSS Cell, Bengaluru Gananatha Shetty Yakkar and regional director NSS Regional Directorate, Bengaluru, AN Pujar were present.
