Kurukshetra: A number of foreign and Indian scholars presented their reserach papers on Gita at the international seminar on Bhagavad Gita, holistic life management and world heritage tourism being held here as part of the Gita Jayanti Mahotsav on Wednesday.
Terming Karma Yoga as pursuit of excellence, American scholar Dr David Frawley emphasized the importance of Gita at educational level and how it should be imparted in schools and homes.
He also explained how crucial it is to bring back the religious values for social and self-welfare. “Gita is not limited to a specific religion,“ he said.
Russian scholar Ole Gorbastine called Gita “the light of life“. Ole, who has translated the Gita into Russian language, calls it a complete gamechanger. “It is an inspiration and guide to humanity in its conduct through modern life.Gita in Sanskrit is impeccable. It can transform one's life completely“.
Dr Radheshyam Sharma, former vice-chancellor, CDLU (Sirsa), explained how the Gita is not giving only spiritual knowledge but also information about the material world and how it is working. He said it is just as valid and relevant today as it was in 150BC. It talks about duty and action.
Professor Jyotindra M Dave said, “Gita provides us with everything we need to know. It is the ultimate user's manual for the human being. Everyone needs to read, analyze and deeply think about Gita to lead a peaceful and organized life.“
Prof Gurumurthy Kalyanaram, an Massachusetts Institute of Technology alumnus and research advisor at MIT, observed that globalization has created lot of opportunities for the youth of Haryana and in order to harness these opportunities, they have to measure up to the global standards of excellence.
However, he observed that India needs to develop its own strategies for wealth creation and build upon its competences so that the masses can be empowered. India can transform only when there is wider participation of the masses in the process of wealth creation.Only when the money goes in the hands of larger number of people, it gets reinvested to create value and create more jobs, earnings and prosperity. Therefore, globalization needs to be harnessed in local contexts.
