PATIALA: Ten days after the Nabha jailbreak, the five absconding accused -- a terrorist and four gangsters -- continue to remain out of reach of the cops.
Shashi Kant, a former cop-turned-activist, said on Tuesday: “This was a well-hatched conspiracy at the behest of the nexus, which intelligently used cops as well as jail staff. And all this was done to help the four gangsters.
Pinda and Mintoo were simply the faces of entire episode. They distracted the cops and everyone else. It would not be surprising if they are used by certain influential politicians during the assembly elections. This is unfortunate.”
Punjab DGP Suresh Arora defended the special investigation team (SIT) set up to probe the case, saying: “We have put the best team, comprising officers who have spent a good amount of time with Central agencies.” However, he refused to share further details, as well as commenting over the allegations.
On November 27, six Nabha jail inmates -- Harminder Singh Mintoo, Kashmir Singh, Harjinder Singh Bhullar alias Vicky Gonder, Kulpreet Singh alias Neeta Deol, Gurpreet Singh Sekhon and Amanpreet Tonda had fled from the premises. While Mintoo was arrested by the special staff of Delhi Police, Pinda -- who played a key role in the escape plan -- was arrested from Shamli. Cops had arrested Pinda’s aides -- Rajwinder Singh alias Laatu, Gurpreet Singh and Bikkar Singh of Patran for helping him.
