AGRA: Demonetisation has hit two high profile politicians of Mathura hard, as they have been forced to postpone the weddings of their children due to lack of liquid cash.
Mathura BSP MLA, Rajkumar Rawat, whose daughter was to get married on December 13, has postponed the wedding to the next "season", as he was finding the withdrawal limit of Rs 2.5 lakhs "too less" for his elaborate wedding plans.
Moreover he was even finding it difficult to withdraw the permissible limits of Rs 2.5 lakhs, as the banks have no cash.
A Congress leader, who did not wish to be named, has also postponed his son's wedding, as standing in queues for making withdrawals is too cumbersome and the money too less for the planned ceremony.
Talking to TOI, Rawat said recently their family faced many difficulties during the wedding of his cousin sister, as they could not manage even the allowed withdrawal of Rs 2.5 lakhs. He said even withdrawing Rs 50,000 was problematic, as the banks weren't releasing the amount. "We got Rs 10,000 whenever we put a cheque of Rs 50,000 for withdrawal", he said.
Without naming Union minister, Nitin Gadkari, whose daughter got married recently, the BSP leader wonder how the "BJP man" had managed the affairs. Saying that he wasn't against demonetization, Rawat said the way it had been implemented had caused immense problems for the people.
The Congress leader also said the implementation of demonetization had left the common man high and dry. He said banks do not have any cash and the small withdrawals that are allowed are insufficient to meet the expenses of the marriage.
