VARANASI: Thick dense blanket of fog continued to shroud the city sky for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, causing a dip in day temperatures. However, the minimum temperature took an upward swing.
As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature was recorded at 15.4 degree Celsius, 10 degrees below the normal while minimum temperature shot up to 13.4 degree Celsius, three notches above normal on Wednesday.

Weatherman said that similar weather conditions would continue for the next couple of days. However, the temperature may witness a rise after December 10-11, decreasing fog in the region, he said.
The weather conditions will remain same until another western disturbance hits the region, which is expected only after December 10, informed former weather scientist at BHU, SN Pandey.
The thick blanket of fog resulted in disruption of traffic movement at several places across the city. Foggy weather also affected flight operation and rail movement. According to manager of AirIndia airline, Mohd Atif Idris, no flights were cancelled on Wednesday, however, operation of about 4-5 flights had been delayed. Jet Airways manager, Aniruddh Singh said that all flights had been delayed by a couple of hours and the New Delhi-Varanasi flight arrived after a delay of two hours in the afternoon.
Enquiries revealed that all the North-bound trains were running late by about 5-10 hours. NER spokesperson Ashok Kumar said that over 10 Delhi-bound trains were running late upto 12 hours.
