ISLAMABAD: The general commuters traveling on Faqir Aipee Road are in great trouble as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had uprooted the said road for repair work, but left unattended from last six months. Faqir Aipee Road is a busy road which connects traffic from Pirwadhai, Sabzi Mandi and I-11 with the Kashmir Highway. The overhauling project of this road was initiated by the engineering wing of civic body in May 2016. Being a major entrance for people coming from Rawalpindi’s areas Saddar, Qasim market, Kalma chowk, Dhook Hasso and carriage factory, it is quite difficult for them to cross this bumpy ride to approach their destinations. Furthermore, the contractor also completely closed one side of the road from NESCOM Hospital to Metro Chowk, which is causing traffic jam in peak hours. While explaining his problems a motorist Nadeem has said; “I have to use this road to reach my workplace, but the dust and bumpy ride change the whole overlook of my face till reaching my office.” The Deputy Director General Works Sajjad Zaidi has said; “the project will be completed within its given timeframe and we left road unattended to conduct soil tests as the heavy traffic of Sabzi Mandi use this road, but when asked him for specific details in this regard he has declined to comment further and referred toward Public Relations Directorate. The question here is that why the engineering wing allowed contractor to uproot both sides of such a busy road and left in dilapidated condition from last six months. Answer is given by a student of International Islamic University Islamabad, who also use this road to attend his classes in the university. He said; “CDA is focusing on improving roads in the northern sectors including F-6, F-7, F-8 and G-6, where the work is being done within weeks while the repair work on roads in the sectors of middle class like I-series has been stalled from last several months.” However, the Member Engineering Shahid Sohail while talking to the Daily Times has said; “There is no discrimination between sectors. The road pavement would be started in coming week and I will personally overlook the pace of this project.” He informed further that the rigid pavement would be laid down on this road and no further delay would be caused in this project. The road is named after Pakhtun leader Mirza Ali Khan of Fata, who lived from 1897 to 1960, and was known as the Faqir of Aipee. According to published literature, he fought against British rulers. The village of Aipee is located near the Mirali Camp in North Waziristan from where Faqir started his guerrilla war against the British Empire.
